Technology and Communication in the 1800s
Introduction:
Travel in the 1800s was very different than it is today. People did not have cars to make their daily commute. Without cars, how do you think they would get from one place to another?
People used covered wagons, horses and buggies. They would walk. If they were near water, they could take a boat. They could also ride on a train.
Investigate and Record: Read the passages and analyze the pictures that go with each section. Summarize the purpose of the invention was and how it positively effected the lives of Americans. Then illustrate the invention.

The 1800s were a time of change, progress, and innovation. These drastic changes did not just alter what Americans were capable of but it altered how people operated culturally, socially, and politically. We will get into those topics in the following days.
